Need Your Help Everyone...

So, today, while I was out and about for the day job, something strange happened.

I'm driving along, heading for home and a voice spoke in my head.  Now, being an Author I'm quite used to this...matter of fact it'd been happening all day long if you must know because I was working on my WIP as I drove from stop to stop...but this voice interrupted everything else and said...

STOP!

So, I did.  I pulled off into a gas station, looked around for a moment and what did I see across the street?  The San Antonio Animal Shelter....

I sighed.  Keep in mind, I already have 5 cats, but I've learned over the years that when that little voice in my head gets that loud, I listen.

I put my car in gear, drove across the street and two hours later...

Please meet the newest member of my family...

This is a two-month old (8 week) Mini-Pin/Chihuahua mix.  He is one of a litter of five, two girls, three boys that today I'm proud to say I rescued from a kill shelter.  (They are trying to go No Kill though, so props for that!)

Now, the girls named him "Amigo", but I'm sorry he just doesn't look like an "amigo" to me, so here's where YOU come in and can win some awesome prizes to boot!

Here's the dealio...

I'm going to run a contest until Saturday, April 13 at Midnight EST.  From now until then, please post what you think this little guy should be named in a comment below.  On Saturday, I'll pick the three best names and post them here to be voted on.  On Monday, the top vote getter (I'll tell you how to vote in the next post) will be chosen and thus the puppy will be happy!  (He's happy right now, he's sleeping soundly on his new Giraffe on his blankie bed!  But I can't keep calling him "Hey You" or "Come mere".)

See?  Told you he was...

Anyway, here's what you can win.

The name with the highest votes on Monday will get the following:

1. Obviously, the puppy's forever gratitude, especially if it's a really, super, duper, cool name!

2. An ARC of Prophecy of Love (When it's available - we're still in content edits so after this, I should be able to start sending it out, but just think, you'll be the first to have one yeah?)

3. A mention in the dedication of my next book.  Just FYI, I'm working on a shifter series but more to come on that later.

4. A character named for you and your choice of puppy names (IE: You'll get a human - Male/Female your choice and His/Her pet will get the puppy's new name...We'll collaborate a bit on this one as I get deeper into the Shifter Series.)

and finally,

5. Just because I'm cool like this, I'm gonna throw in a $15 GC to Amazon or B&N, your choice.

But, to me that's just a bonus.  Isn't it infinitely cooler to have a puppy's undying gratitude, get mentioned in a book and be a character in that same book?

I'm just sayin'...

So, with that, I'll leave you now to think up some really cool names.  Please, don't go with the standard though.  I'm Pagan so the weirder the better!  Get me?

And to start things off, we already have two potentials...

My roommate has submitted Tardis - which stands for: Tiny and Relative Dogs In San Antonio - or if you're a Dr. Who fan, which we are in this house, it's a big blue telephone box too!

And my neighbors daughter across the street has submitted, Roo - mainly because when I took the little guy over for intro's to their dog - a wonderful weiner dog by the name of Lilly - my little guy was bouncing around like a Kangaroo while they played.

If you like either of those names, feel free to say so below.

Until Sunday,

Thanks, as always for stopping by.

Margaret Taylor.

  1. Aww, what a cutie he is! I'm a cat person but I grew up with cats AND dogs and have a soft spot for canines. It's wonderful to hear you've given him a home.

For names, I'll step out on the odd limb and go with Paradox. Given the way you were motivated to rescue him, he is a bit of a paradox, LOL!

    1. Thanks Mae. When I got there, he was laying in the kennel with his brother and he didn't jump, didn't bark, just opened an eye, cracked an eyebrow and gave me a look like "About time you got here...can we go home now?"

So, you know I had too...:D

  2. Aw Margaret, what a cutie (I'm echoing Mae here)! I have to say I love the name Roo, but I'm half Australian. And I love Winnie the Pooh, as do my boys.
For my name, I think I will go with Pie. Why? I dunno why, but I call my boys cutie pie, and he sure is a cutie. Can we have more than one go?

    1. Thank you CD. And yes, you have until Saturday Night, Midnight EST to submit names. If you think of something you like better, feel free to add it to the list between now and then...:D

  3. I think you'll like Roo a lot. It is short which is good for training as well as the fun way it sounds! Come here Roo! Roo, stop barking! See.. easy and fun!

But if you are looking for another name, I love Storm! Strong and very fun as well!

    1. Thank you Ms. Melissa. Roo certainly fits in with the rest of the crew in Eric, Nikki, Leo, Dip and Yodda....and it seems to be getting a good deal of consensus, so we'll see.

I like Storm though and Paradox and Tardis...

SEE?!?!?! This is why I need ya'll's help...cause I'm horrible at this!

  4. What a cutie!!! And so good that you listened to the voice in your head. I vote Roo, I really like it.

    1. Well thank you Ms. Sara. Roo seems to be winning so far...but as I said above, I'm really likin' Tardis and Paradox and Storm and...and...and....

*sighs* Ok, this is gonna be tougher than I thought!

  5. When I saw the name Amigo I immediately thought of Speedy (for Speedy Gonzales). So if he's a fast little darling, Speedy might be an appropriate name!

Plus, it's always good to have their name end in a vowel. It lasts longer when you're outside calling for them!!

    1. Oh that's funny Stacy! And I like it!

You fine ladies are killin' me here! Killin' me I say!

But I'm loving every minute of it. Thank you so much for stopping by and posting.

  6. What a little darling "What's-his-name" is! So I gave this a little thought (very little but not wasted time) to this and since he's Pin and Chi...Pinchi! AND- it goes with Stacy's reasoning too. Not only that- have you ever been bitten by either a pinscher or a chihuahua? They pinch! Wa-la, Pinchi. Plus it's unusual.

I had a tiny dark brown chihuahua once that needed a name. I asked the 'boy next door' who was a food addict. We were 15 and 16... My chi was happily named Taco. :) She slept in a large pot--with the lid on.

    1. ROFL! Calisa, only *you* would have a Chihuahua named Taco. Really. And sleeping in a pot too? How funny! I love it and your choice of names. Thank you.

Currently, little what's-his-name is curled upon my leg, happily content and warm. No pots, yet, but I'm sure since he's all feet and legs and tail, it'll happen!

The cats, though are still working out the Dynamics...*sighs* Not that I expected them to take to him right away, but they will....:D

  7. If you are going with a Doctor Who theme - Rory! Come on - think of him with his puppy dog eyes and total devotion to Amy.

  8. Ok, another suggestion from a friend of mine who is not on BlogSpot but plays World of Warcraft suggested Arthas, who, if you've never played WoW is one of the main bad meanies.

Reasonings: Chihuahua's are always shivering like they're cold (Arthas is an "ice boss" if you will) and they're evil (Arthas is a bad meanie in the game.) Obviously Kali doesn't like Chihuachu's I'm thinking...

Anyway, just had to put that out there as a potential.

  9. Winston, because he reminds me of my dearly departed puppy (he lived to be 17) who was a mini-pin. Also, its a cute name for a cute dog.

  10. I kind of like Tardis, but we always (well except for the fist two cats which my son named when he was a child)use people names. What about Charlie or Maximillian (max for short)?

    1. Oh Ms. Ella, I do so like Maximillian! Very nice. Thank you for suggesting it!

  11. I like Roo too. I like it for the purpose of his Everyday name, but a little dog needs a big name too. So I thought he should be called "Romperoo". I believe that there is some speculation that he is Rusty reborn, but my experience is that our pets upon returning to us like new names, but a nod to his soul's history might be nice by giving him the full formal name of "Oxidated Romperoo" or possibly "Romperoo of Bygone Oxidation". Then you can call him "Roo" for short, which of course ends approriately in a vowel, as a previous commenter suggested. Two in fact.

    How's that?

    1. Yes, yes it does Ishte. Very well thought! I like it. The full version and Roo seems to be the popular consensus so far too...:D

      Thanks for suggesting it.

  12. I like Roo but the other names are good too. I always chose a name that seemed to fit the animal's personality and stuff. I had a minature poodle that I bought off my brother-in-law that they called Scoots. I changed his name to Skooter, and if I had thought when I sent in his papers, I would have made him Crouch's Little Red Skooter. Anyway I think he's a cutie and I'm terrible with choosing names sometimes lol.

    1. So am I CK, which is why I asked for everyone else's input. So far, Roo seems to be the favorite but I'm not going to pick it until it's official. So, stay tuned.

I like Crouch's Little Red Skooter. Bet Westminister would have been scratchin' their heads if you'd done it...:D

  13. If I have to choose between the choices, I'd opt for Roo. He just looks like a Roo. That said, if he were my dog, I'd name him Shortstop. I'm just saying...

    1. lol...thanks Karen. I like that. Problem is, he currently has *absolutely* no coordination! He's all feet at the moment and is always tripping over them so I don't know how well he'd do at a Shortstop position...ROFL!!

  14. My suggestions for such a cutie would be:
Gunny (could he have been a gunslinger in a previous life with the bandana?)
    Bandit
Tyler - a take on your last name more suitable to a boy dog
Shroom (takeoff on mushroom since he has that coloring)

    1. Hi JBC, thanks so much for stopping by and putting in a suggestion. Actually it's his harness but everyone seems to think it's a Bandana, so I might just run with it. I've always loved Marines too and Gunney is a common term with them...:D I like Bandit, Tyler and Shroom too but if I used Shroom, people might just wonder if I'm crazier than normal, which is hard to do, cause I'm bat-shit insane sometimes!
